Baking Soda – The Wonder Product in your Pantry

Over time we learn of these home recipes and tips that just seem to make life that bit easier. From grandma’s chicken soup recipe that makes the cold disappear that much quicker to using a lemon to clean the shower.

Whether you’ve learnt them from grandma or TikTok these home remedies are bound to change the way you clean, cook, and see your home. Today we’re going to be talking about one of those products that you probably have sitting in your pantry at home, and all the incredible uses it has around the house. Sodium bicarbonate, or as you’ll probably know it, baking soda.

Baking Soda around the home

When you think of baking soda you usually think of the delicious things that it can help create in the kitchen, but there are plenty of other uses of this wonder product around the home that can make your life that much easier.

Got a nasty smell you just can’t seem to get rid of, baking soda is a neutralizer, it’ll help combat those potent smells in your fridge, carpet, or shoes after a hard day’s work. Simply put some in a container with no lid in the fridge or sprinkle it on the carpet and vacuum it up after a few hours. Those odors will be gone before you know it!

A surface cleaner. Baking soda is a gentle surface cleaner that can be used on sinks, kitchen benches, or even your oven. By mixing baking soda in with some water you can create a paste that will get rid of the nasty grime all while being gentle and avoiding scratches.

With the laundry we often hear adverts talking about how using their products helps keep your whites, white. Well, did you know baking soda is often one of the active ingredients in the laundry powder that does this? Adding a cut of baking soda to your next load of laundry will help get rid of nasty smells, brighten whites, and increase the cleaning power of your laundry powder.

Have you got a funky smell coming out of the drain? When you combine baking soda and cleaning Vinger together it creates a fizzing, bubbly liquid that helps clear clogged or smelly drains.

Baking Soda in the garden

Did you know that baking soda can be a gardener’s best friend? Not only does baking soda have plenty of uses within the house as we just discussed, but it has a lot of helpful uses in the garden.

There are two main uses of baking soda in the garden is as a fungicide and a weed killer. By mixing baking soda and water together in a spray bottle creates a fungicide that can be sprayed on plants to help prevent fungal infections such as powdery mildew taking hold of your plants. When used in a higher concentration, baking soda spray on weeds can be a natural alternative to weed killer. Vinger is also a fantastic natural product you can use to combat weeds in the garden.

Baking Soda with the Pets

Baking soda is great around the home, great in the garden, helps create some delicious food in the kitchen, can even be used for your personal care, but did you know there’s uses for baking soda even with your pets?

Like around the home, baking soda is a fantastic tool to get rid of some of those nasty pet smells around the home. Simply sprinkle some in the dog bed or the carpet where the smells are coming from, and after a few hours use a vacuum to clean it up. The smells left behind by your fluffy friends will be gone!

Probably the other great use for baking soda with your pets is as a dry shampoo. Have you started to notice that wet dog smell, but it’s not yet time for a bath? Baking Soda to the rescue! Baking Soda can be used as a dry shampoo for your dog, helping to keep their coats smelling nice and fresh in-between baths.
